In this issue of Products & Services Review, we are pleased to feature Ammann Schweiz AG as our Compaction and Road Equipment Company of the Month.
Ammann Schweiz AG are a sixth-generation family business, with manufacturing expertise in compaction and paving machines.
Headquartered in Langenthal, Switzerland, Ammann also has factories all over the world in Germany, Czech Republic, Türkiye, China, Brazil and India, as well as subsidiary offices in many more locations including Italy, UK and USA.
As leading specialists in the design, manufacture and installation of Asphalt Plants for asphalt production, Ammann also provide state of the art technology and operational management systems.
“We are manufactures of machines and equipment that work within the construction industry and have a broad portfolio of products: Asphalt and concrete plants, light and heavy compaction equipment, and Ammann ABG Pavers.”
“We specialise in roadbuilding equipment, including asphalt- and concrete-mixing plants, heavy compactors and pavers. We also provide products for civil engineering and for hire. Our light equipment keeps operators of all experience levels both safe and productive,” stated Jo Adams, UK & Ireland Machine Sales Manager.
Ammann is a global leader in both stationary and mobile asphalt mixing plants, offering flexible solutions optimised for capacity and quality – from compact batch units to heavy-duty recycling systems. Their asphalt plants are highly attractive to road construction professionals as they offer key benefits in terms of sustainability and recycling. Utilising eco-friendly features like BST (Blue Smoke Treatment) which captures emissions at the end of the asphalt production process, particularly during loading and VRD (VOC Reduction Device), capable to cut volatile organic compound emissions by around 70%.
The use of reclaimed asphalt, or recycling, has become a necessity. Governments increasingly want the reclaimed asphalt from old roads re-used in an effort to be more environmentally friendly. Our solutions for Recycled asphalt (RA or RAP) also can provide you with cost savings on several fronts.
Ammann provides several options to help with recycling and cost-saving efforts. Regardless of the system you choose, modern Ammann plant technology will provide a quality recycling process and product, whether through RAP cold addition into the mixer (up to 40% of RAP), or from 35% to 100% of hot RAP, according to the specific RAH technology. A variety of recycling solutions that surely embrace any customer needs and local environmental regulations.
Ammann is the partner that can offer the largest type of conventional fuels available in the market. Our goal is to allow you to choose and expand the possibility for all our customers, to use unconventional and therefore alternative fuels. Our burners are multi-fuels (up to 4 different type of fuels) and capable to include low emissions solutions such as wood dust and 100% hydrogen. Ammann H2 Burner has been indeed the first hydrogen Burner launched on the market.
All the process can be perfectly harmonized by as1 Control System. The proprietary system helps improve quality while reducing material waste and energy consumption.
It provides statistical data that can help you uncover trends and identify areas of strength, areas where improvement is needed, and everything in between. Built-in statistical reports present in an easy-to-understand format. Data can be accessed through the Internet.
Plant operation benefits greatly, too. The system provides fully automated mix production, plus the flexibility to work in safe manual mode. It offers a host of other benefits including the use of unlimited recipes, automatic burner control, dynamic in-flight correction and full integration of electrically heated bitumen storage tanks.
What’s more, Ammann’s asphalt mixing plants deliver the highest-quality solutions in noise reduction. Asphalt plants are often situated near residential areas, making noise suppression efforts more crucial than ever, therefore Ammann have created comprehensive noise reduction products that create a quieter environment.
Through 4 levels of engineering excellence, Ammann firstly takes an economical and effective approach where they use a stack silencer which acts as a sound suppressor to the head stations of the elevators for reclaimed asphalt pavement (RAP), as well as virgin aggregates (VA) which are covered with panelled cladding to reduce sound levels from the inside. They also incorporate sound-inhibiting walls around the plant exhauster to cancel noise from the inside.
Ammann are also well-known for their range of Soil & Asphalt Compactors. From single drum rollers to tandem rollers, and pneumatic tyre rollers, the outcome results in fewer passes and a more productive and profitable jobsite.
“Ammann compactors are efficient and can reach goals with fewer passes of the roller, which provides a host of benefits, including profitability. We are also very proud of our Pavers and Light equipment that bring further quality and productivity that ultimately leads to profitability. All our plants and machines have low ownership costs designed to help customers’ businesses succeed,” added Jo.
In June 2024, to maintain their paving product line and expertise in paving equipment Ammann finalised its acquisition of the ABG paving product line from Volvo Construction Equipment, which has enabled the company to continue to offer solutions for the entire paving process, from the production of mix at the plant to the pavers and compactors. One of its newest product releases in this range is the ABG Titan Paver, an electric-drive paver that can run for long periods without a recharge.
A quote from Hans-Christian Schneider, CEO of Ammann stated, “ABG is a strong brand that we’re proud to welcome to Ammann. We will continue to build on ABG’s exceptional product line and reputation, and provide complete roadbuilding solutions for the industry.”
All Ammann ABG pavers are recognised for their advanced technology, ease of operation, reliability and quality. They are designed to minimise fuel consumption, reduce emissions and operate quietly.
This product, plus others, was recently showcased at Bauma 2025 in April earlier this year. For the new eABG 4820, the largest electric-drive paver on the market, Bauma 2025 the first big show highlighting Ammann’s new paving line, and was a key player in the demonstrations held at the booth.
Visitors to the booth were clearly impressed by Ammann’s innovative jobsite technologies, including the Connected Worksite, which streamlines all phases of roadbuilding.
“We are proud to be ever-evolving and continuous improvement is always our objective. The integration of digital technology into our core business has made it much easier for our customers to interact with us and for our sales and support teams to respond very quickly to customer inquiries and demands.”
“We also recently introduced the Connected Worksite, which is technology that crosses every stage of asphalt production and finds efficiencies at each step,” said Jo.
Remarked as the digital path to sustainable roadbuilding, Ammann’s digital solutions arrange all the puzzle pieces to create a single, clear image of the entire asphalt process. Working in partnership with digitalisation expert Q Point, they jointly provide an integrated solution for all phases of the entire asphalt process, combining improved efficiency, sustainability, and transparency.
Based on digital orders, Q Plant creates an optimal production schedule that is automatically transferred to the as1 control system of the Ammann Plant. This allows the production of the mixing material to be resource-efficient and precisely aligned with delivery deadlines.
These processes can be completely digitised or monitored in real time, and orders can be transmitted as binding or non-binding, allowing the mixing plant to send immediate confirmations, rejections, or notices to the construction company in real time. When the mix is ready, Q Plant then takes the delivery information directly from the Ammann weighing system and transmits it digitally to the truck driver and the construction site, resulting in a workflow that precisely matches the delivery sequence of the trucks.
As a world-leading supplier of mixing plants, machines and services to the construction industry with core expertise in road building and transportation infrastructure, it is clear to see how Ammann has remained so successful for over 150 years.
Looking ahead, we asked Jo what more is to come from Ammann, “Having just launched new products at the recent Bauma, our goal is to never be ‘stuck,’ but always moving forward. We embrace innovation and address the need to protect our planet and environment with carbon reduction solutions. The introduction of a range of Light Hand-held Equipment, Tandem Roller and the latest development our Electric Paver demonstrate our commitment to this goal.”
“With our product range providing such a high level of sustainability and productivity, as well as the latest addition of electric-drive machines that have zero emissions, we are helping customers to become highly productive.”
If you are unsure in your choice of compaction equipment or high-quality Asphalt production, Ammann is here for you.
