In a milestone development for the global card manufacturing sector, Enviricard has announced a revolutionary digital print platform that promises to transform how brands approach card production while significantly reducing environmental impact. The innovation, developed in collaboration with Ricoh and showcased at DRUPA 2023, represents a fundamental shift in how organisations can achieve their net-zero targets whilst maintaining operational efficiency.
This development follows Enviricard’s successful transformation of the UK gift card industry, where they have led the shift from plastic to paperboard since 2006. The company’s achievements have been recognised through multiple industry awards, establishing them as pioneers in sustainable card solutions. Enviricard founder, Graham Lycett, states, “Green cards are the generic name for non plastic based cards, but the Enviricard brand of ‘green card’ targets any market with a need to produce on demand card printing.” He continues, “Enviricard branded cards are ideal for facilities management, events, staff ID management, and any situation in which a card has to be printed on demand. Our technology could be applied for example to library memberships or entry passes.”
The breakthrough comes at a crucial time when retailers and organisations worldwide face mounting pressure to eliminate plastic from their operations. The new platform enables direct-to-store delivery, bypassing traditional warehouse systems, while allowing for precise, data-driven production quantities that eliminate waste and obsolescence.
Independent research confirms that Enviricard’s products, certified biodegradable & compostable to EN13432 standards, represent the most environmentally responsible alternative to plastic & ‘green plastic’ cards available globally. The company’s comprehensive carbon scoring system tracks environmental impact from tree to end-of-life, providing unprecedented transparency in the supply chain.
